The Workington Mill produces premium paperboard under the brand Incada. Our paperboard is an integral part of the shopping experience for our clients’ customers. Since 2013 we have powered the mill almost entirely by fossil fuel free energy. Health and safety continues to be a priority issue for Holmen. Group management has appointed a working party consisting of the mill managers in the respective business areas. The team initiates activities and procedures, sets targets and key indicators, and follows these up on an ongoing basis, reporting back to Group management.

Normal annual production amounts to about 1100 GWh. Workington currently has around 525 employees. Holmen’s wholly owned subsidiary Skärnäs Terminal AB in Iggesund has issued redundancy notices to 20 employees, of whom 14 are collective employees and six are salaried personnel.

The plant came online in March but was inaugurated at the end of May in the presence of the board of directors of the Holmen Group, the forest industry group to which Iggesund Paperboard belongs. Holmen's President and CEO, Göran Lundin, comments: "So far the Group has failed to benefit to the full from its investments in the mill. The main purpose of this personnel cut is to bring about a much-needed reduction in the cost base, but we also have to focus on other areas of the action programme."
